Being one of the most popular areas in Kuala Lumpur, Mont Kiara offers a way of living that’s quite different from the usual city-life KL is known for. Located a few kilometres away from the city centre, this affluent suburb is a self-sufficient development for many. Mont Kiara is home to clean, safe streets, convenient shopping malls, numerous educational institutes and a good host of bars and restaurants.
If you’re looking for a peaceful and homey neighbourhood with good facilities nearby then Mont Kiara might be your calling! Below are three things that make Mont Kiara so special and why you should have a look at this area.
This is the perfect example of a neighbourhood shopping complex that has a good range of shops from grocery stores, clothing retail outlets and numerous f&b outlets. You’ll also find a gym, a pet centre and many other essentials that you’d require. Attached to the mall is an office tower as well.
A commercial and office address, Plaza Mont Kiara is often frequented by office goers and residents in the area. It offers a nice selection of fast-food joints and small boutiques.
By far one of the most popular hang out spots for many Malaysians, Solaris Mont Kiara is a combination of eateries, shop and office lots. Come nightfall, the narrow streets transform in an urban lifestyle centre where people wine and dine at the numerous bars and restaurants in the area. Finding a parking spot during the evening might be near to impossible though!
Publika is quite often number one on the list when you think of exclusive boutiques, hipster cafes and top-notch bars. This open-concept mall also plays host to a number of events and bazaars happening in the city, and has a hip, urban feel to it.
PropertyLife Tip: Enhance your tastebuds with the various food options Mont Kiara offers, particularly in the Japanese and Korean cuisine. You’ll find a range of restaurants catering to lovers of Korean BBQs and fresh sushi.
Thanks to the wide range of options you have in Mont Kiara in terms of schooling, you’ll find that many expat families decide to make Mont Kiara their home. Some of the international and well-recognised schools include:
Garden International School is one of the top schools in Kuala Lumpur, and follows the British National Curriculum. It’s situated right in the centre of Mont Kiara, and many students have the access to walk to the school.
Often known as being the most expensive schools in Kuala Lumpur, MKIS offers an excellent learning experience. Following the International Baccalaureate Board, this school has a spacious campus, and is also well equipped for students with special needs.
This International French School has its campus on the outskirts of Mont Kiara, with more than 800 students currently enrolled. First opened in 1962, this school has only improved and rapidly developed in the following years.
Right from its launch, Mont Kiara was seen as an area developed for the more up-market, expatriate crowd. Here you’ll find that a high number of foreigners from neighbouring countries have made Mont Kiara their home. The good selection of international schools, the cosmopolitan food and shopping options and the suburban atmosphere have all helped make Mont Kiara one of the most sought after areas to live in.
It’s true that property prices run on the higher end of the spectrum in this area. For the past couple of years, there have been fluctuations in property prices, with the rental yield being on a decrease as well. Even so, there’s still high demand for condos in Mont Kiara, and you’ll always find a new launch in this area.
Some of the top properties in Mont Kiara include 10 Mont Kiara, Seni Mont Kiara, Verve Suites and Aman Mont Kiara.
Mont Kiara is one of the few areas in KL that’s, sadly, not connected by any means of public transport. To get out of the neighbourhood you’ll need to have a car by your side. However, it’s not all gloom and doom. There are talks of setting up an MRT line that would help connect Mont Kiara to the rest of KL, and should be completed in the next couple of years. In the meantime, Mont Kiara has some great highways that get you across the city, such as the NKVE highway and the SPRINT highway.
Traffic is a real hassle during the peak hours, so that’s one thing to keep in mind if you’re commuting to work. It’s best to avoid the main roads heading into and out of Mont Kiara during the hours of 6 am/pm and 8 am/pm.
And there you have it, three important points for you to know when it comes to the posh area of Mont Kiara. This area is quite a unique concept in KL, rivaled by none other. Living here means you’ll be getting the best of both worlds - suburban living in a city.

Starting off as a fiction writer for many online publishing sites, I’ve moved on to following one of my major passions: Copywriting. For more than a few years now I’ve worked with companies to create some great web content, particularly in the real-estate field. From reviewing property developments to writing home improvement articles, I do believe the property world is my calling. When I’m not holed up behind a computer screen, you can find me reading a good book, gallivanting across the globe or merely listening to some tunes on my iPod.
