Branded as the ‘City of Entertainment’, this resort development is situated atop the Titiwangsa Mountains, and is the number one weekend getaway for many. From theme parks, casinos, world-class hotels to cable car rides, great food and a pleasant climate, this hill station has slowly transformed from a deserted peak to Malaysia’s leading tourist attraction.

One of the many reasons why Genting Highlands is such a popular choice is because this is the only place in Malaysia where you can gamble legally! An added bonus is the chilly climate, with temperatures ranging between 25 degrees Celcius to around 15 degrees Celcius.

Read on to find out all about these amazing highlands and what it has to offer!

How To Get There

By Bus

Taking a bus to Genting Highlands is one of the most convenient ways possible. You can hop on to a direct bus that takes you all the way to the peak. Catch the Express Bus from KL Sentral, Pudu Sentral or One Utama. You can also catch a bus from the KLIA airports.

By Car

Genting Highlands is around 50km away from Kuala Lumpur City Centre, and this one-hour journey can be completed by taking the East Coast Expressway (E8). After this, you’ll have an 18km scenic drive up to the mountain peak.

Where To Stay

Compared to other holiday destinations, Genting Highlands offers rates that are very economical, especially during the off-seasons.

First World Hotel

First World hotel is by far the most popular hotel in Genting Highlands, and also holds the record for being the largest hotel in the world, with more than 7,000 rooms to its name! This is a great option for those who want a good hotel room at an affordable rate. Be prepared, however, to wait in line to check-in since long queues are an added feature to this hotel.

Awana Resort Hotel

This resort is set a little away from the hustle and bustle of the main area, and is a more peaceful alternative to the other accommodations. If you don’t fancy spending your time at the casino or the theme park, the 18-hole golf course the resort offers is a welcome change.

Genting Grand Hotel

This is one of the few 5-star hotels in Genting Highlands that offers visitors a luxury stay at the peak. Amenities include a heated pool, a karaoke bar and the exclusive ‘The Olive’ restaurant.

Theme Park Hotel

The first hotel to be built at the peak, Theme Park Hotel is built around the theme of 16th century France. It’s another budget friendly option with the basic comforts of a hotel.

What To Do

Theme Park

This is one theme park that has some of the most exhilarating and adrenaline pumping rides out there, perfect for both adults and children. While the outdoor park hosts rides that are a little more daring and adventurous, the indoor park is perfect for families with younger children. Unfortunately , this area is currently under renovation. However, if you want to escape the stifling heat of Malaysia, then you should enter the SnowWorld, a winter wonderland themed attraction.

One great thing to look forward to is the opening of the 20th Century Fox World, the first of it’s kind by the film studio! Soon you can get to experience the world of your favourite movies right here at the highlands! Due to this, the outdoor theme park is currently closed, but we won’t have to wait too long since the 20th Century Fox World is set to open this year itself.

Genting Casino

Now this is Genting Highland’s USP. Having the only gambling license in Malaysia, people from all over the country flock to this casino, and it’s said to be every gambler’s dream. Here you can play games such as Blackjack, Roulette and Poker or you can try your luck at the numerous slot machines that line the walls of the casino.

Chin Swee Caves Temple

Head down a little away from the peak of the mountain and you’ll find this revered Chinese temple set atop a cliff overlooking the lush greenery of Pahang. Chin Swee temple sees thousands of tourists and worshippers every year from Malaysia as well as neighbouring countries. Some of its most symbolic and iconic structures include the nine-storey Pagoda and the 15 metre tall statue of Buddha.
